Library Journal Gives Heaven Starred Review

I've been busy this past week, spending time with my daughter who was home for Fall Break and trying to finish up my %$#@ manuscript. My next Sebastian book, What Remains of Heaven, comes out next week, November 3. Library Journal gave it a great starred review:

Harris, C.S. What Remains of Heaven: A Sebastian St. Cyr Mystery. Obsidian Mysteries: NAL. Nov. 2009.
In his fifth outing (after Why Mermaids Sing), former spy Sebastian St. Cyr is asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury to find who killed the Bishop of London, whose body was found in an ancient crypt along with a decades-old unidentified corpse. Along the way he gets a bit of help from Miss Hero Jarvis, meets Benjamin Franklin's embittered son, and learns more about his origins. VERDICT Harris combines all of the qualities of a solid Regency in the tradition of Georgette Heyer by pairing two strong characters trying to ignore their mutual attraction while solving a crime together. Anyone who likes Amanda Quick and/or is reading the reissued Heyer novels will love this series.

I find it a bit bemusing the way the review emphasizes the romance when it's actually a minor subplot, but I'll take a good review any day, especially since PW got a bit snarky in theirs.

I'm happy for the good review. It is intersting as to what reviewers emphasise. I probably do the same thing in my reviews on the blog.

Yes, we'll take a positive review wherever we find it! But Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick??

Harriet Klausner appears to have actually read and understood the book. And if you ignore that one sentence, PW's review is encouraging.

Looking forward to 11/3!

I have to admit, something like a year after I put the last St Cyr down, I do still find myself wondering about how things are going to work out with that 'minor' subplot...

It's a small part of the work, but a compelling one!

Thanks, Charles. And I think you're right, we do emphasize what we remember best.

Yes, Lainey,I love the Heyer comparison, but Quick?

Steve, I know what you mean--it's the main reason I'm itching to get back to writing #6

Spezzella, my box of author copies just arrived on my doorstep today!

YAh for a good review! I can't wait to read What Remains of Heaven and, like Steve, I'm really intrigued as to how things will work out WRT the minor plot... *grin*

The way I see it, I get the mystery angle, not just for the book but with Sebastian's ensuing search to discover his origins, but a smiddgen (can I use that word?) of romance?

All the best with the release!

I've been eagerly awaiting What Remains of Heaven and was lucky enough to actually find it (and buy it) at the bookstore today.

I'm already spellbound and enjoying all plot points, be they major or minor (LOL). Brava to you and I hope the book does well as it certainly deserves to!

I just finished reading it - the library got it in early and I was #1 on the wait list. LOVED IT as I have the whole series. Great mystery and loved the personal story line/romance sub-plot. I just have to find out what happens in the next one and can't wait - will it really be a whole year to see what happens next? Sigh. I love this series so much, I'm going to buy - which I only do with those I deem "keepers". These definately make the list.

Ducking back in for a moment to say that your descriptions of crypt innards remind me of a story I heard some years ago about the crypt at Westminster Abbey.

Here's a link to the story:

Blessings to you and thanks again,

RevMelinda, I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying it. The story about Westminster Abbey's crypt is funny. I couldn't believe some of the things I was reading (and looking at!) when I started researching this.

Anon at 10:04, Thank you. And I think you'll like what happens next!

Amanda Quick does have some interesting mysteries at times. I just hope he ends up with Hero. I can't stand the thought of his child being a b*st*rd. I love his character too much.

Welcome back! I hope you had a restful, fun, relaxing, and recharging time away for a few days!

You've got me hooked on October Guinness and her unorthodox CIA cohort, Jay, as a result of reading both The Archangel Project and The Solomon Effect!

Do you know the anticipated publication date for The Babylonian Codex? Will it be in hardcover first or only in paperback?

Thanks for your help.
